The skin procedure works by creating micropuncture wounds in the skin that causes a controlled injury. Fine, medical-grade needles reach deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and accelerate cell turnover. These punctures trigger the body to automatically start the healing process by filling in the micro wounds with new collagen and elastin fibers. PREPARATION
The quick and easy nature of the treatment does not require much preparation. However, there are a few things patients can do to prepare themselves for an efficient experience. You may be asked to stop using certain medications and supplements before treatment. Dr. Brown may advise you to stop taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen or naproxen. To see the best results, we recommend patients limit caffeine and alcohol intake for three days before receiving microneedling.
PROCEDURE
When you arrive for your treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. While many patients feel comfortable during the procedure, those who are interested in maximizing comfort can request a topical ointment to be applied to the skin. The Dermapen device will be placed onto your skin and will be moved across the treatment area in a circular motion. This will allow the device to make tiny puncture wounds in the skin all the while leaving the skin intact and unharmed. The motorized needles enter into the skin at various depths, depending on your specific treatment area. A serum may be applied to the skin before your treatment, allowing for deeper entry. Patients may feel a slight tingling or tickling sensation. The entire process should take less than an hour to complete.
RECOVERY & RESULTS
Results can be seen almost immediately because the skin will repair itself right after the procedure is complete. However, allow for 2-4 weeks to pass for full results to show. An individual post-treatment plan will be given when you leave. Please avoid direct sun exposure for a few weeks after treatment. When outside, we recommend patients apply sunscreen to the treated area regularly. Your skin may be sensitive to the touch, similar to a sunburn. The treated area will be red and slightly inflamed for the first few days following the skin enhancement. This will subside within a few weeks. Finally, do not apply makeup for at least 12 hours after your session. Some patients may not achieve their desired results in one treatment. For more striking results, we may recommend five to six sessions. Treatments are scheduled about a month apart from each other.

When will I start to see results?
You can see results immediately after treatment. However, full results won’t show until the skin microchannels have healed and skin color returns, which can take about two to four weeks.
