Does the size and weight of your breasts cause you discomfort? Consider Breast reduction. Larger breasts can be irritating and lead to asymmetrical developments or other health issues. Patients often experience secondary health problems and feel self-conscious of the appearance of their breasts if they appear excessive. If you have a difficult time finding bras that are comfortable and are frustrated with your chest when performing daily activities, the breast reduction can provide relief.
Dr. Brown is highly skilled at performing both a traditional breast reduction and the breast reduction using the Bellesoma Method.
About Breast Reductions
A breast reduction procedure, or reduction mammaplasty, removes excess tissues and skin to provide smaller, lighter, more shapely breasts.
Patients who receive this treatment often have macromastia, the abnormal enlargement of breast tissue. Disproportionately large breasts are often both physically and emotionally stressful. Physical discomfort is often experienced because of the weight of the breasts. Daily activities such as sports or exercise may become painful and the patient can become embarrassed by their appearance.
Breast reductions are performed on people for both practical and cosmetic reasons. We encourage anyone who is interested in the benefits of a reduction mammaplasty to reach out and schedule a consultation!

Dr. Brown will walk you through the treatment, techniques, potential risks and what the recovery period will be like. We encourage our patients to ask lots of questions, like:
- Which breast reduction techniques will provide my best results?

These questions should help guide you through any concerns that come to mind and help you feel confident and comfortable about your procedure. We recommend patients write down their questions and concerns and bring them to their consultation. Towards the end of your meeting, Dr. Brown and you will choose a date for the surgery and give you detailed instructions on how to best prepare for the procedure and recovery.
How to Prepare For Breast Reduction Surgery
In anticipation of your procedure, you will need to stop smoking a few weeks before and after your procedure to promote a healthy healing process. Avoid taking medications like aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements that will negatively affect your blood flow.
Arrangements will need to be made to ensure you have a ride home after the procedure. We also recommend that you have someone stay with you the first night of your recovery. When you get ready the morning of your appointment, be sure to wear clothes that are loose and can be zipped or buttoned. This will help avoid apply pressure to the incision sites.
The best way to prepare for a breast reduction procedure is to follow Dr. Brown’s instructions.
Traditional Breast Reduction Surgical Techniques
When you arrive on your scheduled procedure date, the predetermined areas will be cleaned and marked for incision. General anesthesia and sedation will be administered intravenously to provide a restful, comfortable experience. Once you have fallen asleep, Dr. Brown will apply a combination of incisions that will provide your best results.
Incision options include:
- A circular pattern around the areola
- An incision around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease
- An inverted T pattern
Dr. Brown will proceed to remove excess tissue and trim unnecessary skin. This procedure may require liposuction techniques to remove excess fat deposits. The nipple will remain connected to its blood and nerve supply but will be repositioned to its natural location. If the areola has become stretched and elongated it will be trimmed and restored to a natural shape.
Once your ideal appearance has been achieved, Dr. Brown will close the incisions to reshape the breasts. Sutures may be layered deep within the breasts to support the new breasts and help them adjust to their new shape. This procedure often takes two to five hours.
When you leave your surgery, your breasts will be bandaged and you will be wearing an elastic bandage. The elastic bandage will act as a support bra to minimize swelling and help adjust your breasts to their new shape. This garment must be worn for a few weeks as your chest heals. Small, thin tubes called drains may be placed under certain areas with incisions to help the flow of excess fluids. These drains will be temporary and removed after a few days.
Dr. Brown will walk you through the care of your breasts, medications to control discomfort and when to schedule a follow-up appointment. At your follow-up appointments, Dr. Brown will monitor your healing process, remove drains and notify you when to return to regular activities. Patients often return to work after a week.
Your results will be immediately noticeable. It will take a couple months for your breasts to completely heal but your results will appear natural and beautifully contoured. A breast reduction procedure provides long-lasting results. These results will remain consistent with stable weight and a healthy lifestyle.
Patients often enjoy significantly less discomfort after this treatment.
Your new breasts should permit you to enjoy physical activities and finding the right, comfortable bra. Your figure will also be better proportioned and improve your overall appearance.
A breast lift is commonly combined with a breast reduction and may be recommended to you during your consultation. The Bellesoma method also applies to breast lifts and will greatly improve the proportion of your breasts after the procedure. With Bellesoma, you will be able to see a mockup of your results as well as have the opportunity to contribute to the procedure techniques. Enjoy a breast lift and reduction with diminished scarring and the cutting-edge technology Bellesoma has to offer!
A breast lift tightens and lifts your breasts. Your breasts will be relocated to a higher location on your chest while excess skin and tissue are removed. If you are tired of sagging breasts that lack the fullness and perk of your youth, a breast lift and breast reduction will greatly improve your profile!
