SmartLipo

SmartLipo, Daniel Brown M.D

SmartLipo Triplex, created by Cynosure, is perhaps the most well-known laser-assisted liposuction machine on the market today. It offers advanced improvements in standard liposuction procedures today, including reduced recovery time, local anesthesia, and fat melting before suctioning it from the body. Like the tagline says: Reshape your body, reshape your life.

This minimally invasive and effective procedure is available with Dr. Daniel Brown in San Diego, CA. Contact his offices in La Jolla and Carmel Valley today to request a consultation.

ABOUT SMARTLIPO

SmartLipo is an advanced liposuction device that uses lasers to break down and liquefy fat prior to extracting it from the body. SmartLipo can be comfortably performed in the offices of Dr. Brown without the need for general anesthesia or an overnight stay. Like traditional liposuction, it is performed on patients who have met or are close to their weight loss goal but have stubborn localized pockets of excess fat that don’t seem to respond to their weight loss regimen.

HOW IT WORKS

Two laser wavelengths destroy and dislodge fat cells from their connective tissue.

Like traditional liposuction, SmartLipo infiltrates the surgical area with tumescent solution prior to suctioning out the fat. The tumescent solution helps minimize discomfort and bleeding, among other side effects, throughout the procedure and recovery.

However, SmartLipo further uses laser fiber threaded through a cannula in order to target and liquefy fat cells. This makes the fat cells even easier to remove from the body, with minimal to no discomfort.

SMARTLIPO VS TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION

SmartLipo, Daniel Brown M.D

Traditional liposuction techniques, including tumescent liposuction and power-assisted liposuction, are still popular treatments that may be more useful for the patient’s areas of concern.

However, SmartLipo is preferred when the patient has minimal areas of excess adipose fat. Nonetheless, some of the main benefits of SmartLipo over traditional liposuction include:

  • Using local anesthesia with no need for general anesthesia; minimizes potential complications
  • Reduced recovery time, so patients can return to work in one to two days and should feel back to normal in one to two weeks
  • Fat is removed easier due to laser liquefaction process; less trauma to the body
  • Safely performed in-office
  • Skin tightening abilities
  • Less bruising, bleeding, scarring, and swelling

SmartLipo is frequently performed on areas that have previously been treated by traditional liposuction. It can help with mild to moderate lack of elasticity in these areas and help combat stubborn bulges that can start to reappear. In some cases, traditional forms of liposuction in conjunction with SmartLipo may benefit the patient best. This will be determined once Dr. Brown has conducted a full examination and discussed with the patient his or her goals.

TREATMENT AREAS

SmartLipo has been primarily developed to slim the arms, thin the thighs, contour the face and neck, define the abdomen, and even treat excess sweating in the axillary glands in just one treatment. In addition to these conventional locations for using SmartLipo, Dr. Brown has also found SmartLipo to be effective on the back, abdomen, and male chest (gynecomastia).

BENEFITS

SmartLipo has specific benefits depending on the area being treated.

  • Arms and legs: Local anesthetic. Minimal scarring. Short downtime. Slims the area.
  • Face and neck: Sculpting without downside or downtime of a facelift or neck lift. Longer lasting than most injectables. Targets trouble spots and tightens skin. Only approximately 2 days of recovery.
  • Abdomen and buttocks: Minimal bleeding, bruising, and scarring. Skin tightening through tissue coagulation. Hi-def sculpting.
  • Excessive sweating: Single treatment. Longer-lasting than injectable neurotoxins such as Botox. Effective and with minimal downtime.

Dr. Brown can discuss in person more of the benefits of SmartLipo on the specific areas being targeted.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

SmartLipo may also be a good option for patients who have already undergone traditional liposuction procedures, but need a “touchup.”

Ideal candidates for SmartLipo are healthy, active men and women who have mild to moderate deposits of excess fat on their body that aren’t responding to diet and exercise. The minimally invasive nature of the treatment makes it a good option for a variety of candidates.

However, it is important that the patient has tried getting rid of these stubborn fat deposits through diet and exercise first. Without being committed to a healthy diet and exercise regimen, there is a chance that the area can return to its original contour. It is important that the patient comes in for a personalized consultation with Dr. Brown prior to making the decision to undergo any cosmetic procedure.

CONSULTATION

The consultation sets the groundwork for the rest of the patient’s treatment. This is an opportunity for the doctor and the patient to communicate, not just about what the patient desires from the treatment but also what the doctor can do for the patient. The doctor will use his expertise to recommend whether or not the patient would benefit most from SmartLipo or another body contouring option. This will come after he has performed a physical examination to help with his findings.

In some cases, Dr. Brown will recommend SmartLipo or he may recommend another liposuction technique. If the patient has a large amount of excess skin, he may recommend another procedure such as a body lift or tummy tuck.

Ultimately, the way to determine how the patient can attain their goals is by meeting with a board certified plastic surgeon. Stop wondering and request a consultation today!

PREPARATION

There is minimal preparation required in advance of a SmartLipo procedure. In general, prior to treatment, patients need to make sure that they are in good health. This means that they need to have a steady exercise and diet routine. Plus, they should be either nonsmokers, or smokers willing to quit for a few weeks before and after the procedure, and should not drink in excess.

During the consultation, please inform Dr. Brown of any medications or supplements that the patient takes. These may need to be adjusted in advance of the procedure. Furthermore, the patient should avoid taking any blood thinners for at least two weeks in anticipation of the surgery, including ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, and fish oil pills. Dr. Brown will be able to provide the patient with a more detailed list of foods, medications, and supplements to limit or avoid in the weeks leading up to surgery at the time of the consultation. His recommendations are all for the safety of the patient throughout surgery and during recovery.

PROCEDURE INFORMATION

SmartLipo, Daniel Brown M.D

SmartLipo is performed under local anesthesia, which means that the patient will be awake throughout the procedure. Nonetheless, they will be kept comfortable because they will be provided with local anesthesia and tumescent solution that helps minimize discomfort throughout the procedure and during the recovery. Furthermore, pain medication will be provided following the procedure if the patient requires it.

The procedure usually takes 1-2 hours, depending on the number of areas needing treated. Following the procedure, the patient may return to their home to relax.

However, they should make prior arrangements for another responsible adult to drive them home and spend the first 24 hours with them following surgery.

RECOVERY

Following the procedure, the most common side effects include slight swelling and bruising around the surgical site. The patient will be provided with a compression garment to help combat these symptoms and help the body settle into its new contour. The compression garment should be worn at all times, with the exception of in the shower, until Dr. Brown instructs. Dr. Brown will ask the patient to come in for routine follow-up appointments, typically one to two over the course of the next one to two months so he can make sure the patient is recovering properly.

SMARTLIPO RESULTS AND MAINTENANCE

Most patients will be able to see their results from SmartLipo after just one treatment.

Good results will be able to be seen in one week and will continue to improve over the course of 3-6 months. However, in order to maintain these results, patients should continue to abide by their working diet and exercise plans. Results from SmartLipo treatment are long lasting; however, the fat cells remaining can augment in size. Dr. Brown is more than happy to help the patient develop a custom plan in advance of their treatment so that they can best maintain their results. Most importantly, in the weeks following the procedure, they should eat healthily and drink plenty of water to help flush the terminated fat cells out of their body. In some cases, weight loss may be able to improve results but it is important to consult with the doctor prior to taking on a new diet or exercise regimen.

COST

The cost of SmartLipo, like any cosmetic treatment, will depend on the extent of the patient’s needs. This is just one reason why it is so important for patients to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to undergoing ANY procedure. The consultation is extremely important so that the patient and the doctor can be on the same page regarding the patient’s goals and how they can be achieved.
